He explained that such a service was extremely important so much so that the European Union had made it mandatory for all member states to introduce by the end of 2005. “The launching means that Malta has made the grade before many other countries,” Dr Gatt said. He added that Malta has already satisfied 80 per cent of the EU benchmarks set for end 2005.

Technology was also permitting Malta to have access to the European market. Through the European Employment Services known as Eures, Maltese employers and employees will get information and advice. The service also provides the possibility for anyone to become an employment agent.

“Today we have made more progress in achieving two aims the government has set itself: that of having all public services available on-line and that of making it possible for all businessmen to make contact with the government via electronic services,” Dr Gatt said.
