On that fateful Saturday evening, a luzzu carrying 25 passengers and two crew members left Marfa for Gozo, despite the bad weather and rough seas. The boat capsized when it had almost reached Hondoq ir-Rummien and only four of the passengers survived by swimming to shore.

At yesterday’s ceremony, Fr Eucharist Sultana led a Mass in memory of those who died in the tragedy. After the

service, the congregation was taken to the site of the accident by means of a Gozo Channel boat.

A prayer was said in memory of the victims and Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono and the victims’ families threw bouquets of roses into the sea in commemoration of their untimely passing.
