MLP Expects budget that will not burden families more

Malta Independent Thursday, 4 November 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Speaking at a social activity at the Hamrun MLP club yesterday, Dr Sant said the Nationalist government has made Maltese families shoulder more responsibility than they should. “Income is being reduced while job opportunities are also drying up,” said the Labour leader.

Malta needs a government that will alleviate these burdens and create more job opportunities, he said. “The addition of more taxes will bring suffering to the majority of Maltese families, leaving only the friends of friends to benefit,” continued Dr Sant.

The government should invest in job creation instead of wasting millions on an embassy in Brussels and investing in a bankrupt port, said the MLP leader. Malta also needs a leadership that will assist the middle class and the self-employed.

The MLP aims to send out a message of faith and continues to work in the interest of all workers. The party will show how new opportunities can be created while continuing to strengthen its support from the people, concluded Dr Sant.
