Alex Borg asks Speaker to urgently convene Parliament following Fenech verdict

Opposition and Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg has formally requested that the Speaker convene Parliament urgently following the verdict in the trial concerning the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Borg made the request during a press conference in Parliament, saying the seriousness of the verdict warranted an immediate parliamentary sitting to discuss its implications and the next steps.

His request came a day after a jury acquitted Yorgen Fenech of both charges he faced: complicity in the assassination of Caruana Galizia and criminal association. Jurors returned an 8-1 not guilty verdict on both charges.

The request now lies with the Speaker, who will determine whether Parliament should be recalled.
