Malta Independent Monday, 27 December 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Continental Cars Ltd’s new premises were recently opened by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

The new premises, which are up to Volkswagen standards – known to be topnotch in both quality and aesthetics – will contain a magnificent Volkswagen showroom, which will be one of the largest on the island, and a new after-sales and administration area, workshop and also parts warehouse.

Apart from their attractive appearance, the new premises – which have a total area of 5,000 square metres over four floors – will be conducive to an improved and more efficient service that Volkswagen clients rightly expect.

Volkswagen Showroom

The new showroom, which can hold between 10 and 14 cars, is up to Volkswagen standard which surpasses all other local and foreign requirements.

The aesthetics of the new showroom is in line with the philosophy of Volkswagen Inter-national and it is for that reason that all VW showrooms around the world look exactly the same.

Workshop:

The Continental Cars workshop has a throughput of 150 cars per week, which adds up to 7,500 cars a year. All this work is left in the expert hands of 14 mechanics and technicians. Continental Cars now has an additional six work bays and special new tools which have just been purchased at a cost of Lm15,000 to assist their workers perform a quality job. The workshop is now equipped with a state-of-the-art exhaust and extraction system.

The new workshop enables Continental Cars to offer their customers the express service “Stop & Go”. With the introduction of this express service, Continental Cars can now offer their clients a quick and efficient service at their convenience.

Parts:

The warehouse has increased to an area of 1,000 square metres, of which 600 square metres are fully used over two floors. The old stores were on three floors, so there is a difference in the accessibility to the parts. The parts area now consists of only two areas which allows greater efficiency.

Continental Cars have 13,000 line items in store which is around Lm300,000 worth of parts. There is a circulation of nearly 4,500 items a month, between Service and front counter customers.

This is phase 1 of the overall project. Phase 2 will begin early next year with the demolition of the old Volkswagen and Audi showrooms and the building of new Audi and Porsche showrooms.

Phase two will consist of new Audi and Porsche showrooms and a new workshop for VW, comprising double the amount of working bays to offer a better service for customers, as well as a customer car park. Phase two will consist of a total area of 6,000 square metres over four floors.

Once both phases are ready, the total area will be 11,000 square metres over four floors, which will incorporate three separate showrooms, two after-sales centres, customer parking facilities and the administration block.
