Bank of Valletta recently appointed John Pace manager International Operations, as the new non-resident manager of its Representative Office in Egypt. Mr Pace takes over from Simon Azzopardi who has managed the Representative Office in Cairo since it started operations in September 2003.

Mr Pace started his career with Bank of Valletta in 1978 and carried out various duties in a number of branches. In 1987 he was posted at the bank’s card processing centre and was instrumental in the installation of automated processing systems including real-time links to the international payment systems.

Between 1992 and 2002 he was assigned various responsibilities at the bank’s Private Banking division and in 2002 he was posted at Financial Markets & Investments Division where he is responsible for the bank’s overseas representative offices and Correspondent Banking unit.

Mr Pace is a member of the Institute for the Management of Information Systems (IMIS) and, apart from managing the Egypt Representative Office, he will retain his present responsibilities.

The Representative Office in Cairo was set up primarily to facilitate trade between Maltese and Egyptian businesses as well as to assist entrepreneurs in identifying new business opportunities. The office also serves to strengthen relationships between the bank and financial institutions in Egypt.
