The Broadcasting Authority expressed its gratitude for the proposal made by the Public Broadcasting Service editorial board to change the national broadcasting policy for the newsroom to create more current affairs programmes.
The authority claimed it had always insisted that the national station’s newsroom should be in charge of these programmes.
The BA claimed the newsroom should not only be unique in objective broadcasting of the facts but should also emphasise its investigative capabilities.
In light of this, the authority had objected to the exclusion of current affairs programmes in the document on the national broadcasting policy.
In the statement, the authority hoped the PBS would find a permanent solution for producing current affairs programmes without depending on government approval.
The BA claimed it supports the PBS in its efforts to strengthen its newsroom.
