Middlesea Employees donate blood

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 February 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Several members of the Middlesea Group’s staff donated blood at the blood donation mobile unit which was stationed in front of Middlesea House, the company’s premises in Floriana.

This gesture was a way in which the Middlesea staff could express their solidarity with the less fortunate in a concrete manner, while at the same time helping to create a greater awareness of the urgency and significance of blood donation in Malta.

The employees said that such a small deed on their part may help to save a life and this alone was sufficient incentive to donate blood. Representatives of the blood donation mobile unit explained that blood transfusions were a very regular occurrence, taking up the bulk of the bank’s reserves.

In fact, an average of 50 units of blood a day are used in hospital. “Gestures such as this, by the Middlesea employees, are very welcome and hopefully serve as an example for others to follow. It may also encourage those who have donated blood for the first time to make it their duty to become regular blood-donors,” a hospital spokesman said.
