Malta Independent Saturday, 30 April 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Champagne, chef-prepared delicacies and gourmet innovations for breakfast, wine-tasting of some of the best wines in mid-morning, exquisite platters for lunch, cocktails and liqueurs in the afternoon and more food and wine-tasting in the evening.

All this will be on this weekend’s agenda at Master Cellars’ first Red & White Weekend – an open weekend on their premises in Oratory Street, Naxxar.

This first ever Red & White, which is open to the public today and tomorrow from 9am until 8pm, will be celebrating the world of wines, spirits, cocktails and fine food in an open and relaxing environment.

The open weekend of activities was launched yesterday evening, when Red & White met the 118 Wine Club as well as members of the media. 118 Wine Club members were given the opportunity to taste the wines chosen by Master Cellars, as well as to witness the launch of a new exclusive hamper purposely designed for 118 Wine Club.

Speaking about this event, Master Distributors sales and marketing head Claudio Camilleri said: “Throughout Saturday and Sunday, a special exhibition on the wine-making process will be displayed outside our premises by Camilleri Wines.”

He continued: “Through this exhibition, we will be educating the public on the various steps of the wine-making process, thus helping patrons appreciate this interesting industry. Apart from the exhibition, our Red & White Weekend will also include free wine and spirit-tastings, free food-tasting and free cocktails, as well as platters, and wine for sale by the bottle will be available for everyone attending this unique event.”

A series of wine-tasting sessions will be taking place with wine flowing from the bottles. Among the chosen wines, patrons will have the opportunity to enjoy the wines of Laurenti and Palatino, Brown Brothers, Marques de Caceres, Santa Rita, Piccini, Bellingham and a number of French wines which will be on display on various barrels set up on site.

Later on, the chef will be preparing free antipasti using delicacies selected from his shelves a few minutes before. The items used will all be in-house, from Master Cellars’ outlet, and will all be displayed on the counter.

Recipes will be prepared beforehand and handed out on request.
