Bank of Valletta has sponsored BARRA, a collective art exhibition on the University campus consisting of site-specific installations, which will be integrated in the university environment.

Nine site-specific installations will be scattered all over the university grounds in various outdoor locations. They are the works of nine B.Ed (Hons.) Art students in the fourth and final year of their studies. The opening of the exhibition will take place tomorrow at 6.30pm in the quadrangle on the University campus.

Presenting the sponsorship to Peter Paul Sultana, Michael Galea, head PR and corporate branding at Bank of Valletta, said “BOV is delighted to support your initiative. As a leading patron of arts and culture in Malta, we are pleased to encourage you, as arts students, and to support this innovative exhibition which will feature works of art integrated within the University environment.” Mr. Galea wished the students every success in their studies and augured that this exhibition will serve as a platform to promote their artistic careers.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its sponsorship, Mr Sultana said “This exhibition promises to be an innovative and interesting activity since no such event has taken place before on the University grounds. During the opening, the Art students will also be showing a display of the artistic process involved in the creation of the installations, as well as their short-video projects created for the credit on video art in their final year.”

The B.Ed (Hons) Art students are concluding their course which includes credits in history of art and also in the disciplines of various art forms, ranging from drawing and painting to sculpture, ceramics, etching, photography, video and installation. The art section in the Faculty of Education is currently directed by Raphael Vella, himself involved in the Maltese contemporary art scene. The exhibition will be open every day till 10 June. Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech will be opening the exhibition. The artists participating in this exhibition are Mario Abela, Carmen Aquilina, Angelique Attard, Daniela Cauchi, Olivianne Caruana, Miriam Galea, Sarah Grima, Peter Paul Sultana and Alison Vella.
