Over 5,000 SMS votes were cast by Vodafone Malta customers during the final night of the Eurovision Song Contest, which was held in the Ukraine last Saturday. The voting system operated by Vodafone, which offered customers the opportunity of voting either through SMS or by calling, worked flawlessly both on the final night and during the qualifying night which was held on Thursday.

“Vodafone Malta would like to congratulate Chiara on a fantastic performance and a great result which has made all Malta proud. We would also like to thank the thousands of Vodafone customers who took an active part in the contest by casting their votes either through SMS or by calling in. The fact that more than 5,000 votes were received by SMS on the final night is testament to the enthusiasm of the Maltese for Eurovision. Vodafone is delighted to have been able to provide this service, giving customers the chance to have their say in deciding the winner,” said Sylvana Calleja, sales executive at Vodafone Malta Limited.

Apart from the voting service, in the week leading up to the Eurovision Song Contest, Vodafone Malta also provided a roaming service to Maltese correspondents Sergio Carbonaro and Eileen Montesin. Through this service these correspondents were able to link up with their stations in Malta in order to provide the public with all the latest news and developments from Kiev.

“Sergio Carbonaro and Eileen Montesin kept thousands of Maltese updated on the latest developments from Kiev throughout the week leading up to the contest. Vodafone knows how keenly anticipated these updates were and is delighted to have played an important role in ensuring that the roaming links between Malta and the Ukraine worked without difficulty,” concluded Ms Calleja.
