Oboe, Clarinet and bassoon recital by the Trio Rosso

This performance is being made possible through the support of the German Embassy, especially the German Ambassador, HE Georg Merten, and the German Maltese Circle, in particular its president Albert Friggieri.

The Trio Rosso are composed of Kathrin Goschenhofer, oboe, Dirk Benkwitz, clarinet and Ulrike Buhlmann, bassoon. This well-travelled trio takes pride in exploring the extensive repertoire for oboe, clarinet and bassoon on a highly professional level and plays regularly at prestigious cultural events in Berlin such as the Potsdam Schloessernacht 2004, and the Easter Academy La Villa 2005.

Katrin Goschenhofer studied at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin and at the Berlin Academy of Art. She has played with several German orchestras such as the RIAS Youth Orchestra and the Brandenburg Symphonists, and has performed as a vicarious solo oboist with the Prussian Chamber Orchestra in Prenzlau with which she cooperated in several CD productions. In 1997, when she was a member of Trio Vivo, she was awarded a scholarship from the Yehudi-Menuhin Foundation. She plays regularly in chamber music ensembles and has formed part of the Trio Rosso since 2001.

Dirk Benkwitz studied the clarinet with Professor Horst Hajek in Vienna, Berline and Lugano. He continued more advanced studies after being awarded a prestigious scholarship and has also attended several master classes. Mr. Bengwitz has played with several chamber orchestras in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He has participated in diverse CD productions as well as in television, TV and Radio programmes. He was involved in several orchestra projects in Greece, Russia, the Baltic States and Malta. In Germany he has performed with the Prussia Chamber Orchestra, the Brandenburg Concert Orchestra, the Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra Wernigerode and the Orchestra of the Federal Frontier Guard.

Ulrike Buhlmann studied at the Academy of Music Hans Eisler in Berlin. She has performed with several well-known German orchestras such as the RIAS Youth Orchestra as a solo bassoonist, the Neubrandenburg Philharmonics, the Young German Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Chamber Philharmonics, the Chamber Opera Rheinsberg, the National Theatre Cottbus and as a vicarious solo bassoonist with the Prussian Chamber Orchestra in Prenzlau. Miss Buhlmann has also performed with several chamber music ensembles such as the Berliner Windspiele and has also played with the Trio Rosso since 2001.

Their programme will comprise works by Mozart, Beethoven, G. Jacob, H. Tomasi, R. Maros, J. Francaix, and a world premier composition by Charles Camilleri written specifically for the Trio Rosso for this festival.

Patrons are urged to book early as the number of seats is limited. All funds raised are devoted to Din l-Art Helwa’s restoration projects.
