‘Fire-stop Training’ at Mater Dei Hospital

Malta Independent Tuesday, 31 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Hilti, Leichtenstein and Panta Lesco, the local distributors for Hilti Firestop systems, recently carried out a training programme on Hilti Firestop at the Mater Dei Hospital site, where Hilti Firestop is in the process of being installed. The training was carried out by Pieter Jan Dewulf, Hilti specialist in Firestop systems, as part of a series of training on Hilti Firestop.

The main scope of Mr Dewulf’s visit was to explain the Hilti Firestop range of products, together with their particular application to both Skanska personnel and Panta Lesco staff. The training programme consisted of both lectures and practical applications on how best to effect firestop applications at the new hospital, taking into consideration the fire barrier set up and the services penetrating the fire barrier.

Mr Dewulf explained that fire-stopping is a very important feature in a building as it contains the fire and smoke in a localised area, or so-called “fire-compartments”, enabling people to evacuate the building until firemen arrive on site. Both lives and property are saved by the correct installation of Hilti Firestop products.
