It was an early start for the management team and staff of InterContinental Malta one day this week, when at 6.30 in the morning, they got together to clean the road outside the hotel. The road was power washed and swept clean by the team.

General Manager Christophe Laure said: “We are delighted to be able to contribute towards promoting an awareness of the environment during World Environment Week, especially now that the summer months and tourism’s peak season is ahead of us. It is important that we are all aware of keeping Malta clean and that we take pride in maintaining the beauty of the island.”

This is one of several events that takes place towards promoting the cleanliness and maintenance of the environment. In fact, the hotel has its own Environmental Committee led by Alessandro Redaelli, executive assistant manager, which meets regularly to discuss and take action on continuous and necessary improvements where the environment is concerned, especially within the hotel.

Waste management is carried out in all departments, and all plastic, paper and glass, as well as dry and wet garbage, is separated.

InterContinental Malta is also looking at the possibility of using bio-diesel to operate the hotel’s heating.
