Mark Norman has joined the International Safety Training Centre Ltd (ISTC), a member of the Alberta Group, in the capacity of operations manager. Based in Hal Far, ISTC is a leader in the field of international safety training.

Having joined Richard Sizers Engineering upon completion of his engineering studies at the Humberside Engineering Training College and Hull College, Mr Norman further enhanced his academic engineering qualifications with over four years practical experience with Stelrad (UK). In 1987, upon successful completion of his training as a fire fighting recruit, Mr Norman joined the Humberside Fire Brigade assigned to operational urban, rural, industrial and maritime fire fighting duties. His technical background and operational capabilities brought rapid advancement in his career through promotion to crew commander, watch commander and incident commander as well as maintaining and verifying competency of fire fighters. He was also assigned to the post of instructor in the industrial training section teaching and assessing merchant navy, industry and fire service recruits in basic as well as advanced fire fighting, flammable liquid fires, confined space entry and manual handling.

Mr Norman brings with him to ISTC a wealth of fire fighting knowledge and experience which, besides enriching the locally available pool of fire fighting professionals, can also be expected to further enhance the existing professional base of this rapidly growing training centre which through accreditation with OPITO (UK) and membership of EFSCA (European Fire Service Colleges Association) caters to the on-shore/off-shore training needs of the Mediterranean and North African oil and gas industry and already provides fire and safety training to the top companies operating in Malta.

ISTC provides consultancy services to all types of companies offering fire and safety solutions to fire and safety-related issues such as risk analysis and contingency plans. ISTC also assists in setting up company safety programmes and implementing company safety policies.

ISTC offer a wide range of standard training courses which have been developed over the years after taking into consideration the various training requirements of chemical industries, fire fighters and personnel in on-shore, off-shore, maritime and aviation.

Training requirements vary according to the industry sector or its geographic location so, besides the standard training programmes, ISTC also offer courses tailor-made to specific fire or health and safety requirements.
