BOV Offers straightforward SMS mobile top-up

Malta Independent Tuesday, 5 July 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Bank of Valletta has announced the launch of a new, straightforward and efficient service for mobile phone users. Through this new service, BOV customers can now top-up their mobile phone account by simply sending an SMS.

This new service is being launched following an agreement entered into between BOV and the local mobile service providers Go Mobile and Vodafone, making it possible for all BOV customers to top up their pre-paid mobile account by SMS.

BOV customers can subscribe to this service either through BOV internet banking, or the bank’s website www.bov.com, or from any of the bank’s branches. The mobile number that will be topped-up and the bank account number that will be debited will be determined by the customer upon registration for this service.

The actual process to top up the mobile phone is very straightforward. It involves sending an SMS on 5061-1905 for an Lm5 top-up or 5061-1910 for a Lm10 top-up. The SMS sent to effect the top up is free if sent from Malta. However, if it is sent from abroad, then local SMS charges will apply.

Speaking about this new service, BOV multi-channel banking head Ray Azzopardi said: “This new service is in line with our efforts to provide straightforward and efficient services to our customers and to exploit the full potential of alternative banking channels.

“An added value aspect related to this new service is the fact that it is available not only in Malta but also in all countries where the customer’s mobile service provider has roaming arrangements. This will enable us to support our customers to top up their mobile phone accounts even while they are travelling abroad,’ he said.

Further information is available from the bank’s Customer Service Centre on 2131-2020 or by email to [email protected].
