Malta Independent Saturday, 9 July 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Popular band Planet Funk will be the headline band during this year’s 10th anniversary Tribu festival.

This year’s festival will be a truly innovative clubbing experience. The festival will kick off at about 9.30pm at the Gianpula grounds with a concert by Planet Funk and various other Maltese bands. The concert will be held on 14 August, the eve of Santa Marija.

This year’s Tribu will take place concurrently in three different venues and clubbers can choose to move from one venue to another on the same night.

The venues, which are all located within the same geographical area, are Gianpula fields, Tattingers and Amazonia.

Tribu has its own customised branded buses, so clubbers move to another club, and then another. The Tribu buses themselves will be equipped with massive sound systems, so the party will continue even in transit from one club to another.

“We’ve come up with a new concept of clubbing. Three venues in one night. Three top clubs – Gianpula and Tattingers, licensed till 4am, and Amazonia with a sunrise after-hours session till late afternoon,” said event organiser Silvio Bartolo.

“In the past 10 years, Tribu has set a standard in clubbing and we have always come up with new concepts in clubbing. For our 10th anniversary, we thought of moving away from the usual DJ sets to live performances by one of the leading international crossover bands, Planet Funk,” he added.

In fact, Planet Funk played at the recent Live 8 concert in Rome. Other performers include DJ Erick Morillo, U-Bahn, Luke Slater and Steve Caeser amongst many others.

There are 4,500 tickets available. At present they are priced at Lm9.50 if they are purchased now. However, the price will rise, depending on demand. VIP tickets are going for Lm20. The outside arena at Gianpula has a confirmed permit till 1am. Clubs will go on till 4am. For more information on Tribu TEN event on 14 August, log on to www.exitmalta.com. Tribu’s sponsors include XFM, Exit, Go Mobile, Fosters, Rush Energy Drinks, Basement.com and Vodka Cruiser.
