After a day at work, before going home, most drop in at their local DVD shop to rent a movie to watch later on at home. Movieworld (in Naxxar) has gone a step further by opening a coffee shop together with a DVD shop for anyone wishing to unwind and relax over a cappuccino, or a hot chocolate, after a hectic day.
The café is run by Charles Saliba, who has been in the catering business for over 30 years, while the DVD section is the brainchild of Aldrin Cassar’s passion for movies. Be it for a light snack, a quick espresso or a glass of wine, at Movieworld café one also finds a vast selection of freshly made sandwiches, toasted ciabatta, all prepared with a delicious salad and a great selection of cakes, one of which is the delicious house special carrot cake or gateaux. These can be enjoyed while reading the dailies or the latest in movie literature and/or watching what’s on the plasma TV and/or surfing the net in the Internet café.
The selection of DVDs available for rent at Movieworld is second to none on the islands with 6000 DVDs. For the benefit of customers, the DVDs have been divided into specific sections according to the type of film ie Action, Drama, Comedy, Horror and so on. Of particular interest are the Foreign films and the Classics section, where one can find his old time favourite going back to the silent movies and the not so run of the mill type of film. Great care and attention is given to each DVD for the customer to enjoy the best picture and sound. One must mention the less stringent rules regarding the time duration for each DVD rental.
Something of a first at Movieworld is the special attention given to the success Malta has had in the film industry with a rare collection of all the original posters of movies filmed partly or all on our islands. There is an interesting selection of film character figurines available for sale, ideal as gifts or for the movie enthusiasts.
Movieworld is close to the Naxxar Local Council and Police Station and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 1.30pm and 4 to 7pm, Saturdays open all day.
