Unique Atmosphere for DramaFest opening

Malta Independent Monday, 22 August 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

DramaFest 2005, showcasing innovative Maltese theatrical works by eleven leading Maltese theatre groups, enjoyed a successful opening night last Friday. The audience was able to enjoy five different performances which were staged at the Malta Drama Centre, Maria Regina Junior Lyceum, Blata l-Bajda.

“Last night the atmosphere at the Malta Drama Centre was something special. Maltese theatre has been waiting since last year’s DramaFest for another opportunity to show the quality of its original material. All those who enjoy drama have the opportunity to come to the Malta Drama Centre between Friday and Sunday to witness for themselves the creativity of Maltese writers, directors and actors,” said Ms Josette Ciappara, DramaFest coordinator.

During the first night of DramaFest 2005 the audience had the opportunity to see the work of five of the participating theatre groups, namely Playhouse Theatre Arts Company, theatre@lliance, Curtain Raiser Theatre Troupe, Stage Breeze and Sleepwalkers. During the festival performances will also be presented by Aleateia, Du’, Faces Theatre Group, imaginarts entertainment productions, Ruben Zahra and Urbania.

DramaFest 2005 is sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta plc and forms part of Summer Arts Festival – Festival Malta 2005 organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts (KMKA).

Every evening will see two sets of performances, one starting at 7.30pm and the second one at 9.25pm. Each set may include from two to four performances, depending on the day. On Friday and Saturday, the audience can participate in a theatre chat after the last set of performances. On Saturday there will also be a third performance at 11.10pm.

Tickets cost Lm2 for each set of performances. Pre-bookings can be made from St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta on Tel: 2122 3200 between 10am and 9pm daily. Tickets are also available at the door of the Malta Drama Centre, on each performance day from 6.30pm onwards.
