Commitment To the environment and the guests

Malta Independent Sunday, 4 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The Dolmen Resort Hotel, has just invested in the latest state-of-the-art technology in sea water reverse osmosis. This plant is the largest single unit installed in a local hotel rated at 245 m3 per day and forms part of the hotel’s restructuring and refurbishing programme, which began in early 2004.

Alex Pace, general manager of Dolmen Resort Hotel, said the new sea water reverse osmosis is a big plus for the hotel. The plant incorporates an energy recovery turbine and thus contributes to the environment. The Dolmen Resort is an eco-certified hotel with an audit carried out every six months.

Commenting on the resort’s successful year, with an above average number of guests, Mr Pace further emphasised the resort’s clear commitment to its customers in providing the best quality potable water, catering for the total water demand of the hotel. This he described as an important factor in the resort’s quality package, which also encouraged repeat visitors.

The new generation sea water reverse osmosis at the Dolmen Resort produces all the water supply requirements automatically according to hotel demand and utilises a combination of latest technology in high press pumping with an energy recovery of 55 per cent.

Coupled with its very high grade 904L stainless steel auto orbital welding technique, is its straight through process with no intermediate feed, product or reject tank.

The resulting product is water of the highest quality, of less than 200ppm as TDS, which is much lower than the WHO standard of 500ppm. Oliver Hentschel, head of department, Potable Water, Prominent GmbH, described this new technology as the high quality route to high quality water, and the way forward for hotels in securing greater energy-savings, lower costs, less stress on the environment and greater durability.

The new plant at the Dolmen Resort was supplied and installed by Panta Lesco, the local distributors for Prominent GmbH and forerunners in the reverse osmosis industry in Malta. Panta Lesco’s successful installation of the first reverse osmosis plant goes back 25 years to 1980, at the very same Dolmen Hotel.
