Ulysses – Zero bottles left

Malta Independent Thursday, 22 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Four months since the release of Marsovin’s first Gozitan Syrah, Ulysses, in May 2005, the winery has announced that each one of the 16,320 bottles produced has been sold out.

Commenting on this, Jeremy Cassar, Marsovin’s general manager and great grandson of the late founder Chev. Anthony Cassar, said: “We are very pleased with the sales outcome of Ulysses’ first vintage, which reflects the market’s appreciation of this great wine as well as more significantly the return of the market to local wines.”

Ulysses Syrah, 2004 vintage, was produced from 15.2 tonnes of handpicked Syrah grapes, harvested from seven selected family vineyards in Gozo. The majority of these vineyards are located in the picturesque Ramla Valley, situated between Xaghra and Nadur and overlooked by Calypso’s Cave, the same cave that the Greek mythological hero Ulysses, was believed to have lived in for seven years with the nymph Calypso – hence the name of this prized wine. This first vintage produced a very exclusive and limited amount of 16,320 bottles, making Ulysses a new collectors’ item with great ageing potential.

The next Ulysses vintage will be released next year and promises to be of the same calibre as the first legendary vintage.
