Yellow Pages All out for recycling

Malta Independent Thursday, 22 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Delivery of the 2005/2006 edition of the Yellow Pages, Malta’s number one reference book and business directory, is set to begin this week.

As usual, delivery will take place in conjunction with the Yellow Pages’ annual recovery programme, which allows users to dispose of their outdated copies in an environmentally friendly way.

Since the inception of the recovery programme in 1999, approximately 270 tonnes of unnecessary waste have been diverted from the local waste-stream to foreign recycling plants. Last year alone, thanks to the help of the general public, a surplus of over 70,000 outdated copies were recovered from Maltese households – copies which would otherwise have found their way into Malta’s increasingly overburdened landfills.

This year Yellow Pages (Malta) Ltd hopes to repeat and if possible improve upon the success of last year’s participation levels, in which the Maltese once again demonstrated their ongoing commitment to environment protection.

In the coming weeks, over 215,000 copies of the new edition will be distributed to homes, businesses and hotels in Malta and Gozo. Delivery commences tomorrow, and while delivery dates may vary according to region and area, all Yellow Pages directories will be delivered by 3 October.

Each household will be informed in advance of the exact date of delivery by means of a pre-notification notice. In some areas, these pre-notification notices may have already been received.

Once again, the public is invited to leave their old copies near their letterboxes, on the doorstep, or in the hallway in the case of apartments, on the specific date indicated on the pre-notification slip. Like the delivery, the recovery of outdated copies of the Yellow Pages is free of charge.

Since its inception in 1997, the Yellow Pages has grown to include over 42,000 business listings, and market surveys have shown that it is the number one choice for sourcing products and services on the local market.

YPL is also the only publishing firm on the island that audits its circulation and collection figures. The procedure, whereby PricewaterhouseCoopers certifies the numbers upon completion of the distribution, was introduced last year. Recovery figures increase through the years, given that this is an ongoing process. Yellow Pages (Malta) Ltd is also an ISO accredited company.
