PN MEPs will work to make Malta’s voice stronger in the EU – Bernard Grech

PN MEPs will work to strengthen Malta's voice in the European Union, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has said.

Opposition leader Bernard Grech said that the PN's European election manifestos are currently being distributed to Maltese households, adding that through the electoral programmes, the people can better understand the PN's plans and what its priorities are.

He added that the PN doesn't work from a desk nor from an ivory tower, but it goes to the people and does its best the understand them.

Grech gave his word that the PN will keep on working for the Maltese people at the EU level because it believes in the EU, Malta and its people who made the decision to fully join the EU in 2004.

Grech said that the policy to have full EU membership was lobbied for by the PN "as opposed to others" who were against being part of the union and wished to be excluded from the economic bloc. He said that full EU membership made Malta a modern country and keeps on pushing it forward.

Grech said that the EU brought Malta billions of Euro in funds and opened a world of opportunities for the people, especially the youth, who can now work, study and invest all over Europe. He added that through full membership, Maltese manufacturers and businesses have the opportunity to tap into the huge European free market.

By adding another PN MEP, Grech believes the PN can strengthen democracy in the country and, not only allow them to be present in more committees, but also make the Maltese voice stronger at the EU level and work for the benefit of the Maltese.

Grech said that by voting for the PN in the EU, they will continue widening the horizons of the people and make the environment a priority. He said that, in accordance with the PN's belief, it is lobbying for a law for the environment to be made a right locally, "even though the government is dragging its feet for its approval."

When moving to Cottonera, Grech said that Cottonera's PN representation is low but needs to increase since PN representatives will not work hand in hand with the government and close a blind eye to what the government wants, but rather they are ready to fight for the people.

Grech added that they need not look far for an example with the nearby American University of Malta which promised many students and opportunities that came to nothing. He said that this is because the government wasn't working for the people, but for themselves. He added that this why the PN exposed the government's deceit and didn't let it expand in Marsascala.

Grech ended Thursday's canvassing in Gharghur with its local council currently under PN leadership. He said that whilst he is proud of their work, he intends to do more, amongst other initiatives, by lobbying to carrying out studies to increase investment whilst preserving the resident's quality of life in localities. He said that this is the PN's policy of balance; that the people must work hand in hand with their rights and stop when someone else's peace of mind is affected.

The PN believes that decisions can be taken apart from government, he said, with more popular involvement. Grech concluded by saying that is why local councils need more power, funds and possibilities to help its residents as opposed to having their abilities detracted from them.
