The spate of illegal dumping continued during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, when construction material and other rubble was dumped in no fewer than six locations.

On Tuesday evening, members of the Cleansing Services Department were called to remove 200 items, including refrigerators, tyres and car parts from the road leading from Rabat to Attard.

Yesterday, the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry received several calls as more material was dumped illegally in seven places: construction material was dumped on the Coast Road, the Saint Helena Bastions in Cospicua and near the San Lucjan Tower, Marsaxlokk, other items were dumped on the Fgura to Zabbar road and mattresses were dumped in Kirkop, Zebbug and Zabbar.

A ministry spokesman said it appeared that the dumping of such material was an organised affair. The police have been called in to investigate the matter.

Minister Ninu Zammit appealed to anyone who might have information about the matter to call the police.

So far, the government has spent over Lm400,000 in removing some 11,200 tonnes of waste that was dumped illegally.

The Nationalist Party has issued a statement condemning these acts.
