Misrah TV

Malta Independent Saturday, 24 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Misrah TV is the name of a brand new series that will be airing every Sunday morning with a repeat in the evening on Education 22 channel starting 9 October.

Presented and produced by popular TV personality Joe Vella (pictured), and with Lunik Digital Production House in charge of filming, the new series follows up the success of last year’s Taf X’Niftakar Jien? on Net TV. Once again, the programme takes its cue from Maltese culture and heritage but this time, tackling it from a different perspective. In fact, Misrah TV will be filmed at a different location every week, visiting some of Malta and Gozo’s top cultural towns and villages. The idea behind it all is to bring people from each town into the creative process, using their participation to highlight local talent, tradition and folklore. The mixture should effectively guarantee a great deal of diversity and interesting stories, some of which will also be presented through the re-enactment of prominent personalities from the history of each particular locality.

By involving local residents and organisations, Misrah TV will each week be offering a striking overview of the changes that have reshaped our islands over the last few decades as well as of the ongoing projects that are developing our towns and villages even further. Other aspects that will feature each week will include local cuisine spots, the practice of traditional handcrafts as well as performances from local musicians, singers and other entertainers. Another slot will highlight the history behind the bells of the churches in the featured localities, a spot that will be hosted by Kenneth Cauchi, an expert on the subject. On a more competitive note, the series will also include a spot where residents from featured towns and villages who have contributed their time and effort to the benefit of their locality, whether it is in the social and/or philanthropic field, religion or sports will be nominated by the Local Council for the Misrah TV “Award”. The nominees will be interviewed during the programme. The public will be asked to text its vote for the preferred candidate.

The first episode of Misrah TV will be filmed tomorrow in Marsaxlokk.
