Malta Independent Tuesday, 4 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Vodafone Malta Ltd achieved third place in a Virtual Business Challenge organised by the Vodafone Group for all its operating companies. Some 63 teams, made up of more than 270 employees from across the Vodafone Group, took part in this competitive e-learning initiative designed to give participants a greater perspective of Vodafone’s business and to develop their commercial acumen.

The team from Vodafone Malta was comprised of Claire Cassar (legal and research executive), Antoine Sciberras (senior engineer – network performance), Jonathan Briffa (financial accounting executive), Yvanka Fiorini (business intelligence executive) and Deborah Grech (corporate affairs manager). All the competing teams had to manage a mobile phone company in a competitive environment, with the best four teams from around the world going through to the final. Malta came third in the final, ahead of countries such as the UK, Italy and Germany.

“Vodafone’s Virtual Business Challenge offers a unique opportunity for employees to test their abilities at running a mobile phone business in a virtual but still highly competitive environment. The team from Malta performed excellently throughout, displaying great ability to understand the lessons taught by this initiative and implementing them. The Virtual Business Challenge not only helps employees to develop their awareness of the mobile phone business and their own personal skills. It is also a very useful exercise in identifying those individuals who, in the future, may well go on to occupy the highest positions within the Group,” said Vodafone Malta chief executive Hatem Dowidar..
