Hundreds Benefit from Go Mobile’s GPRS and Wi-Fi solutions

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

For the past two-and-a-half years, several hundred Go Mobile subscribers have been benefiting from the company’s wireless laptop solutions, provided by means of a combo PCMCIA card supporting both GPRS and Wi-Fi.

In fact, Go Mobile was the first mobile operator in Malta to launch such a card in the market, back in April 2003, under the brand name Go Online.

Since then, the number of Go Online subscribers has increased steadily, mainly because of the need to stay connected even in areas where a fixed connection is not available. With over 20 Wi-Fi hotspots in Malta and Gozo, Go Mobile is the local leader in wireless broadband throughput, with locations covering Malta International Airport, various major five- and four-star hotels, yacht marinas, public squares, hospitals, shopping centres and also a sports complex.

Recently, Go Mobile added yet another combo card in its list of PCMCIA cards – the Option’s Globe Trotter Combo card. Like its predecessors, this card is also Wi-Fi certified and works also via GPRS, making it ideal for Internet access from anywhere in Malta and Gozo.

Go Online customers can quickly start browsing the Internet, send and received e-mails, as well as connect securely to their office Intranet thanks to the easily downloadable client software. The card and its software can be used on most portable and wireless devices. As a matter of fact, Go Mobile was also one of the first mobile operators worldwide to offer Wi-Fi with SIM authentication by means of the client software.

“Customers and business people are becoming more and more mobile, and therefore there is the need for applications that work on portable devices like laptops and PDAs. Go Mobile is the leader in this field, having been the first local operator to launch the GPRS and Wi-Fi combo card,” said John Farrugia, Executive Go Mobile Value Added Services.

The Go Online service is available for both pre-paid and contract customers. Companies interested in dedicated Intranet connectivity can contact go mobile’s Value Added Services Department on 2124 6200.

During the forthcoming IT&T Fair in the Naxxar Trade Fair Grounds, Go Mobile will be providing demonstrations of this service, and customers can experience first hand

the convenience of a wire-free Internet connection.

Moreover, such services can also be demonstrated from Go Mobile’s lab located at Marsa Head Office. For an appointment, contact go mobile on 2124 6200.
