The Nonsuch Group and the Historical Re-Enactment Group of Malta will stage Death of an Admiral at Pinto Stores (vault 17), at the Valletta Waterfront at 8 pm on 20 October on the eve of the bicentennial of the battle of Trafalgar with the kind support of Viset Malta Plc.
The one-hour play is written and directed by Sue Bolton-Fletcher to honour the last years and death of Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson. All proceeds from the evening are in aid of Din l-Art Helwa, National Trust of Malta.
The production sees Admiral Nelson on board The Victory at his desk, surrounded by his men, with his patient wife Frances and with his “dearest beloved” Emma. On his death a nation grieves for the loss of their Nelson, the object of their pride and hopes, and this play offers an hour “To the Immortal Memory”.
This is the second production the Nonsuch Group have offered to Din l-Art Helwa to assist with fund raising. Last October, they staged George Bernard Shaw’s The Man of Destiny to packed houses at the Red Tower, Mellieha, a heritage site held in guardianship by Din l-Art Helwa. Members of Nonsuch and the HRGM are volunteers and receive no remuneration for their efforts.
The public is encouraged to attend this event which, with the splendid backdrop of the Valletta Waterfront, promises to be unusual and exciting.
Tickets cost Lm5 per person and will be available at the door, but as space is limited early booking through the Din l-Art Helwa office at 133, Melita Street, Valletta, or by phone on 2122-5952 is
recommended.
