There must be a continued and vigorous investment in education, which is the best tool to see more people in Malta succeeding and for children to be able to seize the best economic opportunities and quality careers, Prime Minister Robert Abela said while addressing the ‘State of the Nation’ conference.

Abela spoke of Malta Vision 2050 and said that the policy speaks of a more modern education system in emerging areas such as coding, artificial intelligence, and robotics, among others. He continued that this is so children are trained for the economy of today and tomorrow, and added that Malta has education schemes and institutions which are training and providing new skills to the youth in order to reach their potential. He also spoke of a diversified economy where different skills are needed, including vocational skills, and added that the government will be reopening the MCAST trade school with this in mind.

With that said, the Prime Minister commented that there is no doubt on the other hand that children need to continue to be trained in digital tools, as he remarked that such tools are provided to the government in schools.

Abela stated that families are an important link in the success of children’s educational journey, so that they can seize the best economic opportunities. Continuing on that topic, he spoke about a pilot project which began operating this scholastic year within ten schools where around 1,200 students and 900 parents were involved in a programme which strengthens relationships between schools, families, and communities. Abela said that the educational sector remains crucial in improving people’s quality of life.

The Prime Minister said that the government has enacted strong investment in educators and will continue to do so, referring to them as an important pillar in the educational sector. He concluded by encouraging more work in favour of families and for the good of their children.
