The Gozo Ministry has received money from the European Union’s Cohesion Funds to carry out a study on the possibility of constructing another road between Ghajnsielem and Mgarr.
The idea is to have an alternative route to the
harbour.
Details of the study were announced by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono at a public meeting in the run up to the budget for 2006.
Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech, who led the discussion, was asked a number of questions, especially about the VAT rate on accommodation, which at present is five per cent.
He said that by keeping the rate fixed at five per cent, instead of 18 per cent, the government was indirectly contributing Lm30 million to the tourism industry.
He urged everyone in the tourism sector to invest more in Malta’s tourism product and ensure it remained competitive and of good quality.
