A 77-year-old female British tourist was airlifted to St Luke’s Hospital yesterday from on board a tourist cruiser which was berthed at Comino, after she suffered head injuries as the result of a fall.
According to statement released by the Armed Forces of Malta, at about 3.30pm, the AFM Search and Rescue Coordination Centre was informed by the Palace Tower Signal Station that they had received a request for an urgent medical evacuation from on board the tourist cruiser Atlantis, which was berthed at Comino.
An Alouette helicopter, piloted by Capt. A. Zammit AFM, was immediately dispatched to the scene to carry out the evacuation from the cruiser to St Luke’s hospital.
The rescuers were LBdr Brian Xuereb and Gunner Stanley Chircop, and the technician was Gunner Godwin Farrugia.
