Malta Independent Sunday, 16 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Volksbank Malta recently celebrated 10 years of successful business operations in Malta. To mark the event, the bank held a reception for business partners, customers and guests at the Corinthia San Gorg Hotel.

Volksbank Malta, a fully owned subsidiary of Österreichische Volksbanken AG, has been active in international financial markets since 1995 when the bank was set up as an offshore bank, servicing non-resident customers only. In 2002, the bank was converted into a local commercial bank and now offers its services to both Maltese and international customers.

Among the guests hosted by the bank were Austrian Ambassador Dr Elisabeth Kehrer, German Ambassador Georg Merten, Governor of the Central Bank Michael Bonello, MFSA chairman Joseph Bannister as well as well known business partners.

More than 50 guests from Austria attended the reception, including the chairman of Österreichische Volksbanken AG, Franz Pinkl, and board member Erich Hackl, Dr Friedhelm Boschert, chairman of Volksbank International AG, and Dr Rainer Borns, board member of Österreichischer Genossenschafts-Verband.

The guests were entertained by the Austrian Vocapella Choir, which has won several prizes in international competitions and has taken part in various radio recordings and musicals in Austria.

The evening was hosted by managing director Herbert Skok, chairman Maurice Mizzi and board member Werner Wess.
