MetalFX Technology Launched in Malta

Malta Independent Monday, 24 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

A world innovation for metallic printing, MetalFX Technology, has just been launched in Malta with a presentation to businesses in the print, advertising and marketing sectors.

MetalFX was developed in the United Kingdom, where it won the 2003 National Business Awards Innovation of the Year, after having been chosen by judges from among more than 1900 nominees.

The world’s best-selling design magazine, Computer Arts, wrote of the system: “The MetalFX printing process is one of a kind. The simplicity of working with only one extra spot channel is exceptional, especially when you consider the diverse results that can be achieved.”

MetalFX allows millions of metallic colours to be printed, all by adding only the one MetalFX base silver ink to the usual printing mix, making metallic printing much cheaper and efficient. All that is needed is a five-colour press.

“Printing with MetalFX Technology produces brilliant, eye-catching results. Designers can make text and pictures appear and disappear according to the light, or even change in reflectivity,” said technical director of MetalFX Technology, Richard Ainge, who was in Malta for the launch. Before the development of the system that led to MetalFX, printing in metallic colours was inevitably time-consuming and very expensive.

“MetalFX is a revolutionary concept and was born from an idea to create dazzling print effects while keeping costs low,” Mr Ainge said. “MetalFX enables designers to use metallic colours in ways that they never imagined possible, leading to an increase in creativity and marketing ideas. For the first time ever, the brilliance of an unlimited range of metallic colours can be put to work on one, single print job for the cost of only one metallic ink.”

MetalFX Technology operates through a licensing system, in which printers have to be licensed so as to use the product.

The MetalFX licensed printers in Malta are PrintIt Press, Poulton’s Printshop Ltd, Progress Press Co Ltd, Printwell, Print Services Ltd and Offset Press Ltd.

MetalFX is represented in Malta by Insight Communi-

cations Agency.
