A man from Zebbug, Gozo, was yesterday cleared of giving false statement while testifying in his own court case.

Paschalino Cefai, 24,was accused of wilful damage to a car, and had testified that two police officers had told him to leave a police station while a sergeant had told him not to.

The court, presided over by magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera said that the charges were not proven to the degree required by law and therefore cleared the accused.

Dr Franco Debono and Dr Chris Said appeared for the defence.
