The first ever-printed Braille Bible in Maltese was published last week by the Malta Bible Society, the society said in a statement.
Since 1984 the Malta Bible Society has published three editions of the Maltese Bible in different print and other non-print formats. After the publication of the third edition of the Bible last year, the society embarked immediately on the making of the Bible in this new format for Malta: the Braille Maltese language/format.
This achievement could only be made possible through the technical and financial support which the Malta Bible Society received from the United Bible Societies. The United Bible Societies is a world fellowship of Bible societies that works in 200 countries around the world through 141 Bible societies. The Malta Bible Society is a member of the United Bible Societies and benefits from the sharing of resources given by this Christian worldwide fellowship.
The launch of these first ever-printed volumes of scriptures in Maltese Braille took place at St John’s Co-Cathedral during a special programme of Bible-reading and Gospel songs. Two important highlights from the programme were the reading from scriptures in Maltese Braille and a concert of Gospel music given by the Joy Gospel Singers, a strong choir of 47 male and female singers and musicians.
