The HSBC Cares For Children Fund has donated a number of books to Gharghur local council for the village’s public library. The books were presented to Gharghur mayor Mario Gauci by HSBC Mosta area director Richard Mercieca.
The Gharghur public library, which is managed by the local council, is located in Gharghur primary school and children attending the school visit the library on a regular basis.
Since taking over responsibility for the management of the library, the local council has undertaken a number of projects to enhance the educational resources for the local residents. These include refurbishing the premises, increasing the number of books and extending the opening hours of the library in order to make it more accessible.
“Education has been a central theme of HSBC’s commitment to the Maltese community for the past six years,” said Mr Mercieca.
“Over the past year, HSBC Cares For Children Fund has been distributing books to various primary schools in Malta. This initiative is now being reinforced by the contribution to Gharghur public library, which is accessible not only to school children but to all Gharghur residents,” he said.
