Melita Launches new channel packages

Malta Independent Sunday, 11 December 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Melita Cable has announced that it will be launching new channel packages with effect from 1 January. The new packages come into effect after an exceptional year for the company, which saw the official launch of the first digital TV network in Malta in February and the launch of Hello, the first-of-its-kind VOIP service, in June.

The new channel packages aim to rationalise the current channel line up from four analogue tiers and a single digital tier to three analogue and two digital tiers. With the introduction of the new tiers, Melita subscribers across the board be able to improve their current programming package.

“The company has spoken to thousands of customers in its bid to improve its content packages,” said sales and marketing head Franco de Gabriele. “We have listened to our customers’ valuable feedback,” he added, “And have designed new packages aimed at providing more value for money.”

On 1 January, Melita will introduce two new packages, one in digital, the other in analogue. Melita Active is a content-rich digital package that includes such channels as BBC Prime, Discovery, ESPN Classic, Living, Eurosport and MTV Europe, as well as 50 digital radio stations including the BBC World Service. Melita Active will retail at Lm7 per month.

Melita Value is a new enhanced analogue package containing, among others, channels such as Discovery, Jetix, Reality TV, MGM Movies, RTL and CNN. Melita Value will retail at Lm5 per month.

With the introduction of Melita Active and Melita Value, the current Entry and Basic packages on the analogue platform will cease to exist.

“With the introduction of Melita Value and Melita Active, we are providing both existing and new customers with a great opportunity to enjoy high-quality content at affordable rates,” said Mr de Gabriele.

“Melita Value and Melita Active compliment an already rich selection of channel tiers enabling us to provide an affordable and compelling TV service to all market segments. Customers can enjoy Melita TV services from Lm3.33 per month to Lm12.50 per month. Whatever the preference in TV, Melita provides an affordable and compelling solution.

“Moreover, Melita is the only company in Malta that offers a lifetime guarantee on the service in that it repairs or replaces the equipment, regardless of how long it has been in operation. Our customers have understood the value of this service and continue to give us their custom.”

To enhance its offer, Melita will also reduce the cost of the Family pack to Lm11.50 per month and the current Melita Connect package from Lm13 to Lm12.50 per month. The further price reduction in Melita Connect provides yet another reason for people to upgrade their current analogue package to Melita Connect.

With such channels as History, Adventure 1, Trouble & Comedy (Full Time Channels), Sailing, Motors TV, Toonami, Boomerang and VH1 Classic exclusive to this tier, and for only an additional 70 cents a month, the choice, says Melita, is obvious.

In addition, any customer upgrading or taking up the Melita Connect service before 15 January has a unique opportunity to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Los Angeles, courtesy of E! Entertainment TV. The winner of this all-inclusive seven-day trip for two will have the chance to attend the Grammy Awards show, tour the E! Studio and meet with E! personalities. This promotion is available to all Melita Digital subscribers.

The company is also giving away a number of annual analogue and digital subscriptions to all the customers who upgrade their service. As the company enters its 15th year of operation, it has developed a very compelling channel line-up to ensure that customers get more of what they want.
