Overwhelming Response to Vodafone’s talk for an hour pay for a minute

Malta Independent Sunday, 1 January 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Vodafone Malta Limited announced that over 20,000 prepaid customers subscribed to its latest campaign within the first week of its launching “Talk for an hour and Pay for a minute” in November.

Prepaid customers subscribed to this offer can make calls to other Vodafone numbers throughout the weekend and between 8pm and 8.am on weekdays at 12 cents per call irrespective of how long the call is..

“Vodafone’s network is capable of handling heavy traffic while delivering the seamless service that is expected by our customers. There was an overwhelming increase of calls during the past week, as 20,000 customers were talking for an hour and paying for one minute only from their Vodafone,” said Vodafone Malta’s Chief Technical Officer, Joseph Muscat.

“We had originally set a limit of 20,000 customers who could benefit from this offer, but after reviewing the fantastic response we have now increased this limit to 40,000 – confident that our network can handle this amount of traffic without any difficulty.”

Two years ago Vodafone Malta made a major investment in a second Mobile Switching Centre (MSC) strengthening Malta’s telecommunication structure. The purpose of a second MSC was to ensure continued service to all Vodafone customers at all times as well as to increase the overall network’s traffic handling capacity.

The company is now in the process of rolling out its 3G network. This new technology will involve a substantial investment.

“Our customers are now looking forward to 3G which will be launched next year. Since the launch of 3G necessitates the layout of a new network, it will not be possible for any operator to launch this new technology before the middle of next year,” Mr Muscat continued. “With 3G customers can expect a faster and more efficient voice and data service, that is, a better customer experience than is currently experienced through GPRS technology, or any interim technologies such as EDGE.”

Vodafone customers who wish to start benefiting from the “Talk for an hour and pay for a minute” have to send an SMS to 5091 5756 or call 247.

Terms and conditions apply.

For more information customers can call Vodafone Customer Service on 247 from their Vodafone or 2148 2820 from any other line. Details are also available from the website www.vodafone.com.mt
