Royal Visit for Dedicated Micros

Malta Independent Sunday, 1 January 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, toured Dedicated Micros’ production facility in San Gwann where its industry-leading products such as the DV-IP and Digital Sprite 2 are manufactured.

The Duke’s visit to Dedicated Micros last – the second largest British-owned manufacturing company on the island – was timed to coincide with Queen Elizabeth’s attendance at the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting.

During his tour of the factory at San Gwann Industrial Estate, the Duke was able to see the advanced Surface Mount Technology (SMT) section where automatic pick and place machines are installed. He was also briefed by Dedicated Micros (Malta) directors Noel Micallef and Stephen Muscat on the processes involved in the manufacture and stringent testing procedures and given a demonstration of typical products in action.

Dedicated Micros has ambitious expansion plans for its future in Malta and is currently in the process of developing a new site at Bulebel, which will double the company’s manufacturing capacity to meet market demands.
