HSBC Bank Malta announced that Godfrey Swain has been appointed to take over a key senior management role hin the bank’s structure as Head of Personal Financial Services.

He will take over from John Hackett in February. Mr Hackett has occupied the post for the last two years and Mr Hackett returns to the UK to a senior position as Head of Service and Sales in the HSBC Bank in the UK.

Mr Swain will be heading the Personal Financial Services structure in Malta, which now embraces the Area Directors and Retail Branch Network, the Wealth Management, Premier and Private Client sales teams, the Consumer Finance Grouping of Cards, Personal Lending and Home Loans. He is also an executive director on the bank’s two main subsidiary companies, HSBC Fund Management and HSBC Life Assurance, which form part of the Personal Financial Services customer group.

The Personal Financial Services business employs over 600 executive, supervisory and clerical staff, and has achieved high levels of customer service and record sales and profits in recent years and has become the clear market leader of the banking sector in Malta.

“Godfrey has a strong track record in the bank through his previous work as managing director of HSBC Life and as head of the bank’s marketing unit. He has a detailed knowledge of our business both in Malta and around the group and a good understanding of the HSBC philosophy and brand values. “I have every confidence that under Godfrey’s leadership our Personal Financial Services will continue to go from strength to strength and would like to congratulate him on his appointment,” said Shaun Wallis, CEO of HSBC Bank Malta.

Mr Swain is a business graduate of Monash University in Victoria, Australia, and holds various qualifications in strategic management and other disciplines. He has travelled extensively within the HSBC Group.

“I am looking forward to taking up this new appointment in an already very successful business, working closely with a great team of executives and staff,” Mr Swain said.
