Creative Commons To port licenses to Malta

Malta Independent Sunday, 5 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Creative Commons a non-profit dedicated to building a range of creative work available for others legally to share and build up, announced last week that Malta is the latest country to join its global project.

Creative Commons copyright licenses, which are available free of charge from the group’s website (http://creativecommons.org), allow authors and artists to mark their works as free to copy or transform under certain conditions – to declare “some rights reserved,” in contrast to the traditional “all rights reserved”—thereby enabling others to access a growing pool of raw materials without legal friction.

In an effort spearheaded by Project Leads Daniele Cop and Brian Restall of Projects in Motion and Dr Spiteri Gingell, Creative Commons Malta plans to adapt the copyright licences for use under Maltese law and to build local engagement with and use of Creative Commons-licensed content.

Creative Commons Malta has posted its initial drafts on the Creative Commons website (http://creativecommons.org/worldwide/mt/) for public discussion. Participation in this discussion is open to all via http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/cc-mt/.

Projects in Motion Ltd (PiM) was set up to provide the leadership and expertise required to boost Malta’s participation in a range of European programmes and initiatives.

It addresses the need expressed by local SMEs for more specific information and assistance structures, promoting international cooperation and networking; and offering services related to ICTs, management, research, training and dissemination activities.

PiM’s network of experts covers areas like ICT, education, health, law, as well as cultural, scientific, environmental, agricultural and socio-economic disciplines
