Chicco At the breastfeeding walk-in clinic

Malta Independent Monday, 13 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Breastfeeding Walk-in Clinic at St Luke’s Hospital opened one year ago in response to a growing number of women returning to the Postnatal Ward who needed help with breastfeeding problems. Many women are aware that breastfeeding is the optimal milk for their babies but finding support in their choice is difficult too.

The Breastfeeding Clinic can be used for actual problems such as infant weight loss or cracked nipples, or any other reason when a mother feels she needs support.

Often mothers just come to weigh their baby to reassure themselves that all is going well or to ask a number of questions. Many mothers need to return to work and may need help on how they can combine breastfeeding with working. Staff at the clinic demonstrate how to use a breast pump and provide tips on how to store and carry milk.

The Breastfeeding Clinic is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 8am to 1pm on a no appointment basis, so mothers can turn up during these times. Mothers can be seen on other days but it is necessary to make an appointment first. Telephone support is also available on 2595 2109 or 2595 1194 daily or 2595 1628, 24 hours.

In January 2006, Chicco presented a Baby Mechanical Precision scales to the Breastfeeding Clinic. The Chicco scales enable the midwife to weigh the baby in a simple and quick way. Thanks to its sensitive mechanism and extreme precision, it is able to detect increases in weight of only 10g.

Moreover, three Chicco steam sterilizers were given to the Breastfeeding Clinic, Post Natal ward and SCBU respectively. The Chicco steam sterilizer is an ideal and efficient method of sterilizing feeding bottles and other accessories. In fact, the high temperature the steam reaches inside the sterilizer allows a quick and correct sterilisation without the use of any chemical substances. Other Chicco breastfeeding accessories such as breast pumps, breast pads, nipple shields and a nipple corrector are also given to the clinic for daily use.

Chicco, “wherever there’s a baby” is the brand that best meets the needs of all young children, for all those seeking simple and safe products specific for each growth phase, designed with skill, love, responsibility and commitment to helping young children grow up in the best possible way.
