Malta Independent Thursday, 16 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Maltese travellers can now travel on an Emirates flight to Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian state of Kerala, via Dubai. As from this month, Emirates started operations to Thiruvananthapuram. The flight from Dubai takes less than four hours.

Kerala offers the traveller an exotic experience with its excellent beach resorts, backwaters, hill stations and heritage sites. Kerala also has a network of no less than forty-four rivers. With the Arabian Sea in the west and the Western Ghats towering in the east, the state of Kerala enjoys many unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Asia.

A traditional Kathakali act, characterised by extraordinary and colourful costumes, elaborate headgears and brightly painted faces, greeted passengers on the first Emirates flight at Dubai International Airport. Dating back to the 17th century, Kathakali is the classical dance-drama of Kerala.

Emirates operates four flights each week from Malta to Dubai with a stopover in Larnaca, Cyprus, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday on A330-200. The Malta route gives a convenient connection to outgoing and incoming passengers from the Far East and Australia. One may also take up the present Emirates offer, lasting until 31 March, of specially reduced fares on a number of exciting destinations for Business Class passengers travelling from Malta to or via Dubai.
