The New Citroen C1 Soon in Malta

Malta Independent Saturday, 18 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Arriving very soon in Malta is the latest addition to the Citroën range, the fun and funky Citroën C1. The C1 is a cheerful, attractive and compact car, designed to carry four people. Setting high standards in quality and road holding, the C1 is also, above all, uncompromising on safety. The C1’s limited size and attractive price place it at the entry-level of the supermini segment.

Not only is the C1 the newest of this car segment, but it’s also the most advanced thanks to an engine that combines economy with impressive, sprightly performance. As a Citroën, it stands out as coming from a brand that people are likely to have heard of – this isn’t the sort of car you’ll have to explain to your neighbours.

The C1 is based on two body styles: 3-door and 5-door; two engines: one petrol (68 bhp 1.0i) and one diesel (54 bhp HDi); two gearboxes: one manual and one automated (SensoDrive); and two levels of trim.

The C1 is a stylish supermini with bright and attractive styling. The short overhangs; generous bumpers and curved lines help express the C1’s fun and friendly character while also conveying a sense of robust strength and safety. The C1 boasts a number of original design features, such as the transparent tailgate and rear lights, and the

5-door model’s innovative rear doors, extending back to the lights. With the introduction of the C1, Citroen now has arguably the most comprehensive and modern range of superminis around.

Available in 3-door and

5-door the C1 share the same original rear end, featuring an extensive glazed surface. Designed for maximum size, the rear window extends over the entire tailgate. Flanked by matching crystal and anthracite lights, it estab-lishes a natural fit with the bumper.

Easy to handle and with sharp reactions, the C1 delivers a high level of active safety. Nimble and pleasant to drive in town, the C1 is also confident on the open road, thanks to its optimised running gear. The C1 is a city car that can also be safely driven on major roads. Its engines are sufficiently powerful for this type of use. The modern engines and limited weight of the C1 ensure low fuel

consumption.

The Citroën C1 is also equipped with other top-level safety features: ventilated discs at the front, ABS, CSC (Cornering Stability Control) to keep the car stable when it rounds a corner with the brakes on, and driver / passenger airbags as standard.

The C1 has received four stars in EuroNCAP crash tests. This excellent result follows the similarly high scores achieved by the Citroën C2, C3 and C3 Pluriel.
