Malta Independent Wednesday, 22 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Bank of Valletta is, for the sixth consecutive year, extending its support to the Transplant Support Group and will continue to be its main sponsor during 2006. The Bank’s sponsorship was presented by Charles Borg, Executive Head at the CEO’s Office to Alfred Debattista, President and founder of the Transplant Support Group, during a courtesy visit by Mr Debattista to the new BOV Centre.

The Transplant Support Group is an organisation of 190 registered members including transplantees and patients waiting to undergo transplant surgery.

Presenting the sponsorship, Mr Borg said “we are glad to be supporting the Transplant Support Group for the sixth consecutive year. Throughout these years in fact, we have noted the praiseworthy efforts made by the Group to disseminate information about the importance of becoming a donor. Bank of Valletta’s support to the Group forms part of the Social Pillar under our Community Program whereby we seek to assist and support initiatives that bring forward the well-being of society at large. We augur that more individuals will recognise the important role of the Transplant Support Group by becoming donors and thus increase the chances of saving more lives,” concluded Mr Borg.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its continued support, Mr Debattista said “our Group seeks to offer support to those who are about to undergo a transplant and also seeks to keep a regular contact with the relatives of deceased donors and ensure that their memories are honoured. We also concentrate our efforts towards outlining the concept of organ donation and the importance of having registered organ donors,” continued Mr Debattista. “Various campaigns are held throughout the year to encourage individuals to fill in a registration form and we immediately supply them with a donor card. To date, the number of registered donors is in the region of 55,000,” concluded Mr Debattista.
