The Malta Environment & Planning Authority (Mepa) determined 734 applications in February and received 554 new applications. The net pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,219.

During February the Mepa processed 44 notifications of development, which, according to the Development Notification Order 2001, do not require a formal application.

During the same month, 71 stop and enforcement notices were issued, 49 in Malta and 22 in Gozo.

In February 2006, 36 enforcement cases were closed, 23 in Malta and 13 in Gozo. 23 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit. Another 10 cases were resolved since owners decided to remove illegal development and comply with enforcement notice. During the same month three cases were withdrawn by Mepa.

The complaints office received 19 cases that were resolved without the need of enforcement action, since owners complied with instructions given by Mepa Enforcement Officers.

During the same month Mepa carried out seven direct actions.
