Vodafone And HSBC charities heed school’s call for help

Children with a hearing impairment who attend the Helen Keller School in Qrendi, will have their hearing levels monitored more effectively following the installation of an audiometer, paid for by Vodafone Malta Foundation and HSBC Cares For Children Fund.

The new audiometer, costing over Lm2,000, will be used by the school’s educational audiologist to determine the exact level of hearing loss which a student might have. This will help the school in the advice it gives parents on the appropriate audiological equipment for their children and thus help the children themselves to gain a full education.

“This new audiometer will give us more exact data on the condition of the students’ hearing. This will also help the audiologist guide parents and teachers who develop individual programmes in order to give each and every student access to the National Minimum Curriculum,” said head of school, Carmen Cascun.

She continued: “Without the help of HSBC Cares For Children Fund and Vodafone Malta Foundation, the school would not have been in a position to purchase such an important piece of equipment,” said

Helen Keller School is a special school in Qrendi for students with a sensory disability. Sensory disability includes visual and / or hearing impairment with or without additional disabilities. The school provides peripatetic services for children with a hearing impairment from pre-school to post-secondary level.
