Gasan Body shop uses environmentally-friendly paint

The Gasan Body Shop Paint Centre has recently introduced the use of environmentally-friendly Standox water-based paint in the spraying process of vehicle repair.

The use of water-based paint, which is recommended by the manufacturers themselves, reduces the amount of solvent emitted by 72 per cent, thus safeguarding the health of employees and ensuring better care of the environment.

Solvents found in paints contribute significantly to air pollution especially in warmer climates like ours, as they promote the formation of “ground-ozone” which could be harmful.

The use of water-based paints is the simplest and most cost-effective measure regarding the reduction of solvents.

“Standox have provided us with excellent solutions and alternatives with these water-based paints,” said Gasan after-sales manager, Alfred Vella. “Furthermore, Standox have provided our staff with some valuable training in the finishing stages of car spraying. Water-based paints are used in the production line of our manufacturers, so it makes sense to use them at the re-finishing stage too,” continued Mr Vella.

Director of Galdes & Mamo Ltd – representatives of Standox Paints in Malta – Andrew Mamo, also commented on the attributes and advantages of using water-based paints in the refinishing stages. “The end result is a much clearer finish in terms of both solid, pearls and metallic paints,” said Mr Mamo. “The proportion of solvents in water-based paint is decreased to around 10 per cent, as opposed to about 85 per cent in conventional paint. The Gasan body shop is certainly leading the way in safeguarding the environment and health of its employees,” commented Mr Mamo.

The Standox water-based vehicle paint conforms to EU regulations.
