Rehearsals for the new exciting musical being produced by Masquerade started last week following the arrival of Andy Reiss from the UK.
Mr Reiss will be the musical director for this show and he will also teach the numerous catchy tunes to the performers. He is no newcomer to musical theatre as he has worked in the West End on shows like Les Miserables.
Culled from the many literary works of Theodor Seuss Geisel, known to most as Dr Seuss, Seussical the Musical tells the wacky tale of an elephant who discovers a planet on a speck of dust, of a bird who grows a tail so long she can’t fly and of a kid who dares to dream. It is a joy for both those children and adults who dare to envy their childhoods.
Created by composer Stephen Flaherty and writer Lynn Ahrens – who also wrote Once on This Island and the score for Ragtime – the show boasts an exciting soundtrack with the music being a fantastic mix of R&B, Latin and Pop.
This award-winning team have lovingly brought to life all the favourite Dr Seuss characters, including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, and all the Who of Whoville! These classic, colourful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”!
Masquerade Theatre Company will bring to life the imaginative and colourful world of Dr. Seuss over two weekends at the Manoel Theatre at the end of April.
Masquerade’s artistic director Anthony Bezzina said: “It’s nice to do a family-oriented show. I am excited to do a show that will bring kids back in. This whole show really is fun for all ages.”
Seussical will have a cast of around 30 performers. Anthony Bezzina is the artistic director and choreography is by Alison White.
Bookings can be made from the box office at the Manoel Theatre. Seussical will run from 21 April, with shows at 7.30pm and 5pm on Sunday 23 April. Prices range from Lm4 to Lm8.50.
