Bank of Valletta has renewed its support to the Dean’s List within the Faculty of Arts. The Dean’s List is an academic award that is presented to students who achieve top grades in at least 80 credits during the first two years of their course. This is the 11th consecutive year in which this award is being given and Bank of Valletta has been the sole sponsor of this award since its inception.
The students who have this year made it to the Dean’s List are Dorianne Decesare, who will be graduating in the BA Hons course in Italian, Derek Muscat, who will be graduating in the BA course in French and German studies and Carine Van Oevelen, who will be graduating in the BA Hons course in French.
In recognition of their outstanding academic performance, the three students were presented with a study grant by Bank of Valletta. The presentation of prizes was made by Carmel Borg, manager of Bank of Valletta’s university branch, during an awards ceremony under the patronage of Prof. Dominic Fenech, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Malta.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr Borg said: “Supporting educational development is an important pillar of Bank of Valletta’s Community Programme. We are delighted to continue to be the sole sponsor of the Dean’s List, an initiative that we have supported for many years. Indeed, through our support, we seek to encourage students within the faculty of arts to pursue their academic studies successfully. We believe that good academic preparation will act as the foundation to a successful career after the students’ university years.” Mr Borg also took the opportunity to congratulate this year’s winners for their excellent academic performance.
Prof. Fenech thanked Bank of Valletta for its ongoing support of this initiative. Prof. Fenech also congratulated the three students and explained how the very stringent conditions of the Dean’s List allows only the very best to feature in this prestigious list. In fact, only students who have achieved high percentile grades and have completed 80 credits with straight ‘A’s’ or better without any fails or re-sits can be included in the List. The student must also be recommended by the Head of Department in consultation with other tutors for inclusion in the Dean’s List.
Attending the presentation was university rector Prof. Roger Ellul Micallef.
